A tap is a tool used to cut a screw thread on the inside surface of a hole. Whether you are repairing a damaged thread or threading new material, you want to use a high quality E-Z LOK high speed steel (HSS) tap. E-Z LOK HSS taps are durable and provide optimum cutting performance.
Although there isn’t much heat build up when hand-tapping, lubricating the cutting threads before tapping can reduce friction and help with chip removal. You can use a specialty tapping fluid, light machine oil, or even a little WD-40.
